There is nothing we need to do alone
"And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age" Matthew 28:20.
Dear Friends in Christ,
This fall will be like many others in our lives. We have been watching the colors change, and start to fall. By the time you read this many trees might be bare. As a child I dreaded when it was time to rake leaves. We lived on 13 acres of land, and although we didn’t need to rake all of that land, it felt like we did. We loaded tarps of leaves and made never-ending trips to dump in the woods further back or on the side of our property.
As an adult raking leaves isn’t something I look forward to either. This time I live in the city on a much smaller plot of land. I have to remember to put them out by the road at the right time to get them picked up. One year before the last of my leaves were on the curb, I realized that I had missed the last pickup day. So was that it? Was I hopeless? Would I just miss out? I looked online to see if I could come up with ideas. I was in luck! The city was going to do an extra round of pick-ups that year because the leaves fell late.
What an amazing example of Grace. It wasn’t because of anything I had done to deserve an extra chance. The leaves are just a symbol of things in our lives that pile up. One of the many things that bring us down. We can never catch up no matter how hard we try. Our goal in life is not to become perfect like Jesus. Jesus is the one that has already deemed us worthy of his love. Jesus reaches out to us in our weakness, in our inadequacies and gives grace and life.
This fall you will experience the leaves like in years past. You might decorate pumpkins, or drink apple cider, but each fall is unique. This year as the leaves changed, so did much about your beloved church. A different Pastor is among you and leading you, and I know that it doesn’t feel the same. What I do know is that God’s grace is just as present here at this time. We are God’s people, and we continue to worship and serve as we are called to do. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve witnessed a love for God and this church. I look forward to seeing all the ways that Grace enters into our lives
God’s Peace,
Pastor Laura Kuntz
